Consultant roster
Being a small company, and with interests, capabilities and expertise in several areas and geographic locations, Supras’ approach is to hire in people for specific assignments. This approach follows from, among others, Supras’ Capabilities (cf. the Profile).
Context
Relevant expertise is increasingly available in developing countries and countries in transition, and Supras draws upon a global network of contacts and collaborators for this purpose. This global network partly draws upon the close collaboration with the Community-Based Natural Resource Management Network (CBNRM Net), a global community of practice of more than 500 experts in various fields that live and work in around 100 developing countries and countries in transition (Supras is involved in managing CBNRM Net through CBNRM Networking).
There are important reasons for investing in and using local consultants in this way: (1) Capacity building, that is, building local capacity, (2) The need to build longer-term ties with relevant local expertise, and (3) The logistics following from the fact of the work taking place in developing countries and countries in transition, while Supras’ office is located in Norway.
Consultants are selected based on their expertise, performance, approach to working in teams, level of professionality and competence. In most cases they are nationals of and live in developing countries and countries in transition, specifically the country or region in which they have expertise.
